About Dental Implants

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root (usually titanium) that is surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone by a periodontist. Dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth, replace multiple teeth, secure a dental bridge or anchor a full set of dentures.

Dental Implants: The natural way to restore the form and function of your teeth

When a tooth must be replaced, natural, conservative and functional dental implants are Dr. Aldredge’s first choice.

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root (usually titanium) that is surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone by a periodontist.  Dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth, replace multiple teeth, secure a dental bridge or anchor a full set of dentures.

After an implant is securely placed, the body’s natural bone and gum tissue will grow around it to hold it securely, just as it would a natural tooth root.  When it is a tooth replacement, a crown is attached to the implant to complete a strong. natural-looking new tooth.  For bridges or dentures,. the appliance is attached to implants which serve as anchors in the jaw.

Dental implants are strong and durable and will last many years.  In fact, today’s dental implants have an amazing 98% success rate.

When choosing dental implants for partial or complete dentures. Dr. Aldredge uses the Allon-4® Technique to provide excellent support and stability for dental appliances, eliminating slipping, gaps and odor that are problems with removable dentures.

Reasons for dental implants:

What does getting dental implants involve?

For most patients, getting dental implants is a 3-step process.

Evaluation:

Dr. Aldredge will perform a thorough examination to determine the type of implant you need and whether your bones and gums will require treatment to be able to support the implant.

Placement:

Dr. Aldredge will use digital tools to make a 3D image of your mouth. He will use this as  a guide to determine the best placement and angle for the implant.  In a simple surgical procedure. he places the implant into the jaw. The implant bonds with the jaw bone, which will grow around it in a process called osseointegration. Depending on your individual needs, this can take a few weeks to a few months. In some cases a second surgery may be required to place an abutment, a post that will hold the replacement tooth in place.

During this time, you will never be without teeth.  You’ll be provided with a custom, temporary prosthetic as your implant heals.

Final Restoration:

Dr. Aldredge works closely with your dentist to ensure the best outcome with your dental implants. Once the implant is secure, your dentist will attached the crown, bridge or denture that has been crafted specifically for you.

You will receive care instructions when your treatment is completed.  Good oral hygiene and eating habits, alongside regular dental visits, will aid in the life of your new implant.
